SANTA INES DE LA VEGA LODGE, EXPERTS OF FLY FISHING THROUGHOUT NORTHERN PATAGONIA

Northern Patagonia has rivers of rapid runoffs, variable river flows, and the presence of lakes that make an ideal habitat for fishes to live possible. Lakes produce a regulating effect in the rivers, making them quiet, plentiful, and having clear water. This is the main reason for us to keep in mind that our constant purpose is managing the main rivers and lakes of Llanquihue's basin every time better, to make fly fishing a perfect sport.

MAULLIN RIVER, LODGE STRETCH

This stretch is located by the shore of our lodge. This private and technical area covers 4 kilometres of deep water with soft currents. Both ends are cut off by an impenetrable wall of vegetation, giving the perfect conditions to dry fly fishing or streamers, but always keeping the policy of "Catch and Release" in mind. Common trophies on a fishing session are brown trout, rainbow trout and trout perch, which can weigh between 2 or 4 kg during the season. The best season to do so is from early September until the end of November and April, when it is out of season. This stretch is ideal for midday programmes or as a complement for many-days programmes.

MAULLIN RIVER,
MAULLIN FALLS STRETCH – EL GATO

This one is very different from the previous one and it is located 40 minutes from the lodge by land. It offers strong currents, some beaches for wading, and high water level, which means that in a flotada (a kind of fleet of boats) it is possible to sail more than 7 kilometres. It is an intense stretch, with laborious fishing and with satisfactory results, so the fisher needs to be able to give the best in an all-day sailing. The best time for doing so is from the beginning of the season until December and from April until May.

PETROHUE RIVER

One of the most prestigious, well known and important rivers throughout Northern Patagonia is the Petrohué River. It is one hour and thirty minutes by land from our lodge. It is absolutely wonderful because of the natural landscape, astonishing views, and lots of places for you to explore and visit. Here we can find vast areas for wading and lots of good places to fish onboard. Eventually, from beginning to end the Petrohué River is a tempting surprise that any fisher cannot miss. Fishing is assorted and very dynamic, since, during the season, it is possible to capture rainbow trout and brown trout, Coho and Chinook salmons as well, which among February and March are the main protagonist of the show.

LLANQUIHUE LAKE

Llanquihue Lake has a depth of 350 metres, shallow shores with rolling hills, and an overwhelming beauty. Fishing there can be boat fishing or trawl fishing, where large catches can be done and where salmons are the main attractions. It is perfect to complement many-days programmes, but also, to know the wonderful Llanquihue Lake's basin much better.

THE 2012-2013 FISHING SEASON AT MAULLÍN RIVER STARTS IN SEPTEMBER AND FINISHES THE FIRST SUNDAY OF MAY, AS LONG AS THE AUTHORITY (SERNAPESCA) DOESN’T MAKE ANY CHANGE OR NEW REQUIREMENT.

To ensure that each fleet in our stretch of Maullín River is efficient and has high quality standards, we have highly qualified bilingual guides from the Patagonia Go Fishing Company.
